Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Good Afternoon Friends,
I may want to change the title of our class this week to “Temperature and Prayer.” When the weather is questionable I generally press on toward the possibility of the church continuing to gather; we will see what the weather this week-end portends for Sunday morning.
I hope that you have taken the opportunity to take the Myers-Briggs if you have never done so, or that you have refreshed your sense of your “type” since the last time you took it. Everyone is a larger universe than four letters strung together to indicate personality traits. However, as I have been known to say at times, “There must be some reason that I never see Quarter Horses running at the Kentucky Derby”; which is simply another way of saying that each of us is born and nurtured in particular ways that shape who we become. Familiarizing ourselves with our gifts, our strengths, will give us a strategy and management plan when we have to function or encounter our weaknesses.
Last week we began a brief description of the various letters within the four letter Myers-Briggs typology – Introversion/Extroversion; Intuitive/Sensing; Feeling/Thinking; Perceiving/Judging. We will review those again on Sunday, as well as do a short jog through the history of personality “typing” that we see in both religious and philosophical history. We will also look into the history of the Church, as well as the literature of the Bible, for various temperaments which may resonate with where we find ourselves. I have found this profoundly helpful in my own spiritual journey. Each of us contains a web of caverns wherein lay some of our greatest treasure.
If we are able to meet given the weather predicted, we gather at @9.15 for “stump the rector,” starting officially at 9.30am, in the Garden Room. We end at @ 10.15.
I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.
Blessings and Godspeed,
Alston
